Pluto in Aquarius: Breaking barriers, shifting power, and the rise of female rage
Hi Friends,
I’ve been promising you an article on Pluto in Aquarius for a couple of weeks now, and here it is. If you’ve been following me on Instagram, you’ll know how much I’ve spoken about the importance of this transit. Pluto entering Aquarius was a life-changing moment, as we will never experience Pluto in Capricorn again in our lifetime.
Pluto governs power structures, control, transformation, and cycles of death and rebirth, often dismantling the old way of doing things to make way for radical new beginnings.
As an outer planet, Pluto moves more slowly than planets like Mercury or Venus, so its effects are felt on a larger, collective level rather than in our individual lives. Known as a ‘generational’ planet, Pluto stays in each sign long enough (up to 30 years) that entire age groups share the same Pluto placement in their charts. With its 248-year cycle around the zodiac, Pluto’s influence is powerful and long-lasting.
So what does Pluto in Aquarius mean for us in this point of time?
As I always say, astrology works in cycles. We can look back at previous moments in time where Pluto moved into Aquarius: the American Revolutionary War, the French Revolution, the Irish Uprising, and the Haitian Revolution. Aquarius, associated with community and humanitarianism, hasn’t seen Pluto’s influence in 248 years so you can understand why I place so much emphasis on this transit being a game changer.
The Aquarian era calls for communities to band together, particularly in response to archaic systems, government, racism, and basically anything that isn’t unjust or oppressive for the ‘people’. This now becomes all about the revolution—Aquarius is the rebel and revolutionist who challenges tradition.
With Pluto’s focus on control and power and Aquarius’s emphasis on freedom and social justice, these energies can clash. The narratives that play out will be unexpected and hard-hitting. Typically, Pluto transits take longer to show their effects because of the planet’s distance. However, we’ve already started to see this transit playing out in recent news stories and trends online.
Here are a few Pluto in Aquarius themes I’ve observed recently:
The #WomenInMaleFields trend: Role reversal! Haven’t I been saying that female rage will be collectively building and becoming more visible and transparent? Aquarius is an androgynous sign, rejecting traditional gender roles entirely. With Pluto in Aquarius, there will be an increased focus on equal rights and leveling the playing field. Expect more discourse on social relations and the evolution of gender roles.
The suspension of parliament in New Zealand: Once again, we see women and female rage rising unapologetically. Māori lawmakers performed a haka, a traditional group dance, to demonstrate their community’s anger and fear over a bill that aims to reinterpret the country’s founding treaty with its Indigenous people. Aquarius embodies the power of community!
This inspired French women in Avignon to perform Haka in support of Gisèle Pelicot, who was drugged by her husband and dozens of men over the course of their marriage. Her ex-husband was sentenced to 20 years—the length of a typical Pluto transit in one sign. The Luigi Mangione story: This is perhaps the most Pluto-in-Aquarius narrative I’ve seen. Remember, Aquarius is the rebel challenging traditional and unfair power structures in defense of the people, whilst Pluto represents power, government, and control. This news story captures those themes perfectly, especially since the trial could result in jury nullification due to the overwhelming online support Mangione has received. Aquarius also rules online networks, social media, and group activism.
The drones in New Jersey: How can we talk about Aquarius without mentioning aliens? Aquarius rules space and extraterrestrials. There’s a lot more to come on this topic—remember, Pluto will be in Aquarius for the next 20 years. By the end of this transit, we can expect groundbreaking discoveries in astronomy, significant advancements in space exploration, and potentially even revelations about extraterrestrial life. Think of it as the next ‘Space Race’ era. I don’t know about you, but I’m really excited for what’s to come!
Astrology can be so literal! In my previous articles, I mentioned that justice and power to the people is coming—and you only have to look back at previous Pluto-in-Aquarius transits to see that another revolution is on the horizon…
If you’re curious to know more about what Pluto in Aquarius could bring over the next couple of decades and how this will affect you personally and our society as a whole, here’s a roundup of some key topics to watch for during this Pluto transit:
1. Tech Revolutions and AI Ethics
Pluto in Aquarius strongly ties to technological advancements and the collective. This could signify breakthroughs in artificial intelligence, blockchain technology, or virtual reality. However, Pluto also brings scrutiny and transformation, so expect intense debates around ethics, data privacy, and the potential misuse of technology by powerful entities. In my last article, I mentioned how the Gemini full moon could bring news about social media or big tech companies. Sure enough, this energy coupled with Pluto in Aquarius has already brought us the story of the potential sale or ban of TikTok in the US.
2. Decentralization and Power Shifts
Aquarius is all about decentralisation and challenging hierarchies. This could manifest in a rise in decentralised finance (DeFi), cryptocurrencies, and community-driven governance models. Pluto’s presence may force the dismantling of centralised power structures, including large corporations and traditional financial institutions.
3. Climate Activism and Environmental Justice
With Aquarius ruling collective welfare and humanity, Pluto’s transit could amplify global climate action. Expect grassroots movements advocating for environmental justice to gain more traction. Technology might also play a bigger role in sustainability efforts, such as carbon capture or renewable energy innovation.
4. Global Protests and Activism
Pluto in Aquarius aligns with uprisings and revolutions. You may see more organised global protests advocating for equality, social justice, and dismantling oppressive systems. The power of collective action, both online and in person, will be undeniable.
5. Redefining Relationships and Communities
Aquarius challenges traditional norms, including how we view relationships and communities. There may be a rise in alternative or blended family structures, communal living arrangements, and non-traditional partnerships. These shifts could redefine societal expectations and emphasise collective well-being over individualism.
6. Health and Collective Well-Being
Pluto’s connection to transformation and Aquarius’ focus on innovation could spark revolutions in healthcare. Expect advancements in personalised medicine, wearable tech, and the use of AI in diagnostics. Public health initiatives emphasising collective care may also emerge.
7. Revolutionising Education
Traditional education systems will be a thing of the past and undergo significant upheaval during this transit. Pluto’s transformative influence in Aquarius could lead to more accessible, tech-based learning methods, a rise in online education, or even challenges to outdated curriculums (yes, all the real history behind wars, colonialism and culture, may be introduced in education during this transit…hopefully).
8. Equality Movements for Marginalised Groups
Issues of race, gender, and equity will continue to dominate the global conversation, but Pluto in Aquarius suggests systemic dismantling rather than just surface-level reforms. This could manifest in legal changes, reparations discussions, and intersectional approaches to justice.
9. Digital Communities and the Metaverse
Aquarius rules online networks, so Pluto’s transit will expand how we connect virtually. Whether it’s the metaverse, augmented reality, or evolving social media platforms, expect transformations in how we build and interact with digital communities.
10. The Rise of Open-Source Innovation and Collective Creativity
Aquarius thrives on collaboration and community-driven efforts, whilst Pluto’s energy forces transformation and empowers the collective. This transit could lead to a renaissance in open-source platforms, whereby creative and technological innovations are shared freely among communities rather than controlled by corporations. This could range from software development to artistic movements, sparking a collective reimagining of ownership, intellectual property, and collaboration.
