Solar Surge: Why This Week Could Spark Your Next Big Shift
The Planets are Changing Signs This Week: Mercury moves into Aries, the Sun enters Taurus and Mars FINALLY leaves Cancer! You’re being called to take aligned action with grounded intention.
We’ve come through the other side of major astrology transits that have pushed us to change and evolve—eclipses, retrogrades, and the recent Full Moon. Full Moon energy continues to affect us for up to two weeks after it peaks, so if you’re not feeling like your usual self, give yourself some grace and let the dust settle—because the energy is picking up again this week.
This week starts in a murky, confusing place but builds into something more supercharged, only to be slowed again by the Sun’s shift into Taurus.
I, for one, have been feeling very here, there and everywhere—scattered, like I’m trying to complete a 1,000-piece puzzle while missing 100 of them. This is the effect post-retrograde shadows can have, especially with Mercury involved, as it rules communication and mental clarity. However, with Mercury’s shift into Aries today, we’re finally leaving behind the hazy Pisces energy that has made it difficult to ground our thoughts and plans.
As planets change signs, the collective and personal energy shifts too—especially when it’s the inner planets like Mercury, the Sun, and Mars, which tend to impact us on an individual level (unlike the generational outer planets).
This week, I’d caution against leaping into something without thinking it through (easier said than done). Mercury and Mars shift into fire signs, so this energy wants you to act, to move, to be risky. But with the Sun moving into Taurus, and squaring off against Mars by the end of the week, you’ll feel that push-pull; we have the energy to get things going but the Sun in Taurus wants you to slow down and process instead of being impulsive.
The silver lining? There are no planets retrograde for the next three weeks! If you saw my Instagram post, you’ll know I recommended using this time to get a project off the ground. Whatever it is you’re focusing on right now—use this window wisely!
Let’s go through the major transits of the week.
Mercury in Aries — 16th April to 24th May
Mercury in Aries means communication may be a little more direct and impatient, try not to take it personally if you feel people are being more short than usual. Mercury in Aries wants to get to the point, no small talk.
A key point to note here, is that Mercury enters the exaltation sign of the Sun. In astrology, exaltation means a place of strength for a planet to function at its best. The Sun performs well in Aries because it focuses on identity, awareness, and existence in its purest form—the Sun represents confidence, how we show up in the world, how we go after our goals, and our career paths—you can see why Aries is the sign that supports these themes.
Also notable: Neptune recently moved into Aries (with Saturn soon to follow next month) and meets Mercury at the important degree of 0°. This is really interesting because Mercury and Neptune met previously in Pisces as Mercury went retrograde. So here they are again in this spiritual cosmic dance.
When Mercury and Neptune meet, two things can happen:
Increased confusion and delusion
Spiritual breakthrough and clarity.
These may sound contradictory, but Neptune is tricky like that. If you listened to my podcast feature on Neptune in Aries you’ll know how elusive this energy can be. On top of that, Mercury is astrology’s trickster—a bit of a cosmic jester. So while a breakthrough might come, don’t be too quick to act. Things may not be what they seem just yet.
My advice? Channel this energy into something creative. Neptune fuels imagination, and Mercury helps communicate it. Together, they can spark beautiful creative expression if used intentionally.
Mars in Leo — 18th April to 17th June
MARS FINALLY LEAVES CANCER! Hallelujah, let us all rejoice. I’ve been waiting for this day since last year—and thank god it’s here—can you tell how much I hate the Mars in Cancer transit? lol.
Just as Mercury enters a fire sign (and the exaltation sign of the Sun), Mars also moves into fiery Leo—a sign ruled by the Sun itself, also known as the home of the Sun. This is bold, expressive, extroverted, main character energy. Mars in Leo wants to be seen, heard, and admired.
This is a big deal.
We’ve had an extended Mars-in-Cancer transit due to last year’s Mars retrograde. Although Mars turned direct in February, its painfully slow journey through Cancer has been testing your patience. Now, as it reaches the critical 29° before entering Leo on Friday, you may feel that internal tension peaking.
With Mars in its critical degree in Cancer (a sign it doesn’t do well in) and Mercury at the 0° point—you’ll want to watch your words. Don’t get into any petty arguments because it could have the potential to escalate!
Mars did enter Leo last year briefly, so from Friday onwards, you may notice themes from November-December 2024 creeping back into your life for a final resolve. Next week brings the final of three Mars-Pluto oppositions—a powerful culmination of something that’s been building since late last year, but this time, you’ll have the solar confidence to approach it differently. More to come on this in next week’s article.
Sun in Taurus — 19th April to 20th May
This weekend, the Sun shifts from fiery Aries into the grounded earth sign of Taurus, inviting us to slow down, stabilise, and reconnect with what brings us true comfort. After the action-packed experimentation of Aries season, Taurus energy helps us build on those initial sparks of ideas with discipline and intention. Over the next few weeks, focus on cultivating what you truly value. Taurus is a fixed sign—which is why it’s known for its stubbornness!—but that also gives you the staying power to see something through.
So this week, both Mercury and Mars enter fire signs tied to the Sun—and that’s no coincidence (because, truly, there are none). The Universe is gifting you solar-powered energy to boost your confidence, fuel your goals, and expand your leadership.
Starting from this week, you may notice that your career goals are shifting, you’re rethinking your business ideas, sensing that something in your professional life is ready to evolve, or you feel more determined to go after what you want with a newfound confidence. This is all thanks to the surge of solar energy. Don’t waste it—harness it!
Honestly this was comforting to read because I've got a challenge coming my way and I need to feel some kind of a confidence boost that I hope mercury in Aries can provide.
