Solstice: A Change of Direction for the Second Half of 2025
We’re in a time of powerful and accelerating change
I can’t believe we’ve reached Solstice already. It felt like only yesterday I was writing my 2025 astrology articles to prep everyone for the big year ahead.
Before I get into Solstice, there’s a few transits happening at the moment that are important to note.
We’re in a time of powerful and accelerating change.
The difficult astrology we’ve had to move through in the first half of the year has helped clear out distractions from your life and ended chapters in order to force you onto new paths.
You’ve made space for growth even when it was uncomfortable to do so.
Astrology will show you how everything works in cycles. You can’t experience the ‘good’ without the ‘bad’. Even then, nothing can ever truly be simplified into good or bad because in hindsight, we understand why some narratives had to have their ending.
You may have felt like you’ve been treading water this entire year, not knowing where to move next, what path to take, who to trust, what your next step is…life has been in an odd state of chaotic stagnancy.
But as I mentioned, astrology is cyclical.
Now the Cardinal signs are in focus—Jupiter is in Cancer and Saturn and Neptune in Aries. These are generational planets which impact society, an era, the collective as a whole. This is a time of action.
The benefic planets are soothing some of the wounds and intensity of the first half of the year. Mars and Venus have both recently moved out of their retrograde signs that have been causing us to go back and forth on our relational dynamics.
All of this followed by the Sun moving into Cancer this week, the Solstice is going to be the marker, or turning point for your change of direction as we head into the second half of the year.
As a reminder, you can still grab my free 15-page free glossary [link] to help you feel more confident in the conversations and terminology you’re reading here.
I’ll summarise chronologically, the current energy we are in leading up to Solstice.
Venus in Taurus: 6th June
Finally. Venus is home. The energy is much more grounded—Taurus is one of two signs that Venus rules, so she can do her job well here. This is ‘slow down and smell the flowers’ type of energy. There’s an appreciation for quality across all aspects of your life—food, relationships, clothes, experiences. If you’ve had a falling out with someone, this transit can help you patch things up.
Venus’ move into Taurus marks the completion of her retrograde journey since January. Do you notice where you’ve had a new perspective shift over the last couple of weeks? Compare that with the retrograde period (particularly from March). Perhaps something you were going back and forth on has finally ended and you’ve gained clarity over this topic. Since Venus can represent relationships, many of you have been dealing with a separation, divorce, family tensions, friendship break-up etc. This begins a new chapter.
Jupiter in Cancer: 9th June
I’m not going to speak too much on this as I wrote about Jupiter in Cancer in my previous article [here]. The main point to note is that Jupiter is exalted in Cancer, meaning Jupiter does best in this sign. A lot of astrologers—or social media pundits—overhype Jupiter in my opinion. I’m not saying this is a planet to be weary of, but many state how Jupiter is an extremely lucky planet full of blessings. I would say abundance more than blessings. Jupiter expands, grows, develops. It’s a planet of wisdom. So in one area of your life, Jupiter is going to expand your opportunities, and for the collective, Jupiter in Cancer is a time for us to all reconnect with family and friends, explore and develop the self, and start our path towards emotional healing.
Mars/Uranus Square: 15th June
I told you to watch out for dangerous shocking events this past weekend. In my last article, posted 11th June, I wrote:
‘Keep an eye out on June 14th-15th, very intense energy on these days.’
I followed this up with a Substack note, which I posted a few days later:
On my Instagram, I posted a few stories of how this prediction manifested:
The Minnesota Assassination: There’s a few interesting astrological links here. 1) The shooting happened in an area known as ‘Twin Cities’ and we are currently in Gemini season (the twins). 2) He was disguised as a police officer which is very on brand with the current Neptune conjunct Saturn in Aries transit (hidden authority, blurred truth). 3) He started an organisation called Red Lion Group and at the time of this event, Mars (red) was in Leo (lion).
I’m sure there were many more violent outbursts that happened over the weekend, but these were the main stories I found.
Uranus is the planet of sudden shock and surprise and Mars represents danger, explosiveness, heat, violence, accidents/injuries, war and separation. When these planets form this type of aspect together, it can create sudden violent events.
In your personal lives, you would have experienced this on a smaller scale such as unexpected illness or injury, unexpected news of a separation, unexpected financial issue. If nothing ‘serious’ happened to you like this, then you may have found yourself in new territory or in completely different circumstances unexpectedly. It really depends where these planets sit in your chart.
I’ll give you an example of what happened to me; I found myself unexpectedly babysitting my little niece after my cousin couldn’t find a babysitter last minute for an event he and his partner had to attend, so I changed my plans to help them out. I took her to the park but when I returned home, I found that I had been bitten by something on the back of my neck (still no idea) and on top of that, I had a little accident where I burned my hand.
Mars in Leo square Uranus in Taurus = Mars (burns, accidents, injury, heat, irritation) in Leo (children, play) square (tension, action point) Uranus (unexpected event, change of plan) in Taurus (neck area, body, touch).
Safe to say my experience was very literal astrologically!
Mars in Virgo: 17th June - August 6th
Mars has been in Cancer and Leo since September 2024 due to its retrograde cycle, so I’m very, very excited for new energy and for Mars to pick up pace again.
Mars in Virgo is organised, disciplined, and logical. I love Mars in Virgo, it means we can get shit done and get our act together. This is extremely practical energy so take advantage of it if you’ve been wanting to organise yourself. Have a clear out of old things in the house, focus on seeing a project through, start a new routine or workout regime. Virgos, this transit will impact you most. Activity is picking up for you this summer! This transit will be more challenging if you were born during the day.
With Mars changing sign, it marks the completion of its full retrograde journey since September. Now gaining speed, Mars is helping usher in these powerful, accelerating changes in our personal lives. What have you been working on since September last year that has now come to the surface and culminated?
Solstice: 21st June
The Solstice arrives as the Sun moves into the nurturing sign of Cancer on the 21st June, marking the official start of summer in the Northern Hemisphere.
The word Solstice comes from the Latin solstitium, which means ‘Sun stands still’. This name reflects what happens in the sky: the Sun appears to pause at its highest or lowest point in the sky before changing direction. It marks the longest day of the year (Summer Solstice) or the longest night (Winter Solstice).
The transits I’ve explained above have provided a moment to pause and reflect on the first half of the year as we reach this turning point. The Solstice acts like a cosmic doorway—inviting us to release what no longer supports us and step into a more emotionally aligned and authentic version of ourselves.
In astrology, each Solstice signals the start of a new season, when the Sun moves into either the sign of Cancer (in June) or Capricorn (in December). These signs are both Cardinal signs as they initiate us into a new season (along with Aries and Libra). So the Solstice marks a time of action and change, planets have ended retrograde cycles, changing signs, and picking up speed. We are gaining momentum.
The Solstice has been honored by cultures all over the world for thousands of years, often seen as a sacred time of transition and renewal and is still celebrated today. At dawn on the Solstice at the ancient Stonehenge monument, the rising sun reaches the middle of the stones when shining on the central altar. Those who follow pagan traditions, believe that the Fae (fairies and elves) come out during the Solstice.
The Solstice will help push you forward into the new chapters and storylines that the first half of the year has been preparing you for.
Next week is a big one! The Cancer New Moon is approaching fast—start thinking about what new beginnings you want to manifest. Lean into the Solstice clarity and make sure you’ve released what no longer serves you.
Brilliant as always! I’m gonna get myself ready for the Solstice and New Moon energy ✨
A business purchase I was making suddenly fell through late last week - talk about disruption (and stress) over the weekend! But it has cleared the way for a new and better approach and this article resonated so much! Thank you 🙏
