A Quiet Milestone: Full Moon in Capricorn
This full moon marks a long-earned turning point, one you may not have realised you’ve already reached. Effort over emotion. Let go of what no longer fits.
A full moon that isn’t heavy and intense? Yes, finally.
It feels like it’s been a long time since I’ve been able to write about a full moon that wasn’t challenging us in already challenging times.
And to be honest, I’m feeling the energy of Neptune retrograde (which went retrograde on 4th July) and Mercury retrograde’s pre-shadow a lot more than this full moon energy.
Yes, alas, another Mercury retrograde is upon us, you can track it here in the 2025 astrology calendar. Pre-shadow refers to the area a planet will revisit during its retrograde period. So whatever is coming up for you this week and next, know that there’s likely more to the story when Mercury officially stations retrograde on 18th July—more on that next week. Let’s focus on the full moon for today.
Full Moon in Capricorn: 10th July at 9:37pm BST
The full moon in Capricorn invites us to pause and ask: What are we actually building here?
It brings a reality check—not in a harsh way, but in a clarifying one. It’s here to help you zoom out, take stock, and reflect on what’s working, what’s draining you, and what might need restructuring.
As I mentioned, this full moon isn’t a difficult one compared to some of the intense lunations we’ve experienced lately. I’ve seen a few takes online demonising it simply because Capricorn is ruled by Saturn and Saturn is known to be the challenging taskmaster.
Whilst that’s true, Saturn also brings reward—not instant gratification, but the kind that’s earned. And that’s what this full moon energy is likely to highlight on a personal level: something in your life, particularly around family or structure, is being acknowledged, celebrated, or finally reaching resolution after a long, drawn-out process.
I mention family/family dynamics because, during a full moon, the Sun and Moon sit opposite each other in the sky. The Moon will be in Capricorn, and the Sun is currently in Cancer. This axis is significant because the Moon rules Cancer, and Cancer represents family, particularly your Mother/Grandmother or close female figures. It can also speak to the home, close friends, roots, emotional foundations, and even the body.
Capricorn represents our outer world, our public life—status, career, legacy, ambition, and structure. With Capricorn being the opposite sign of Cancer, this means the Moon is in exile in Capricorn because it traditionally rules Cancer (link to my astrology glossary here if you need it!). There’s pros and cons to this: we may feel this full moon energy is a bit more solemn and serious, but the upside is that Capricorn can help us to manage our emotions better and not let them get the best of us. That can be a real gift when decision-making is involved.
So with this full moon, you might find yourself celebrating something that’s taken time, effort, or discipline, whether it’s in your own career or a success within your family. For example, my cousin has just completed her degree and will be graduating this month. I’ve also found resolution in a difficult, long-standing issue with a family member. These are classic Capricorn full moon themes—not overly sentimental, but deeply significant.
Full moons will shine their light and push things to the surface, particularly when it’s in the sign of Capricorn—less beating around the bush and more constructive energy.
And if you’re not celebrating anything in particular, you may instead be gearing up to launch something or tying the final bow on a long-term project. Full moons are always about culmination and release. Because the Sun is in Cancer opposing the full moon, this project is likely something that’s close to your heart, there’s some emotion tied to it—blood, sweat and tears!
One of the things I love about this full moon is the trine it makes with Mars. Mars is the planet of fire, severing, separation, drive, ambition, courage and determination.
Mars is currently in Virgo—the meticulous, analytical earth sign.
So this means we have the constructive energy (Moon in Capricorn) to remove something (Mars) that’s been emotionally draining us (Cancer).
Mars in Virgo doesn't act impulsively. It acts with precision, logic, and forethought. It severs and separates with accuracy.
So whatever you're ready to let go of, chances are, it's something you've already processed from multiple angles. Use this full moon to let it go and clean up! Clear space for what’s next—and I’m going to remind you for the 700th time, we are in a 9 year in numerology—a year of endings.
Not long after the full moon occurs, the Moon will begin to move towards Pluto (currently in Aquarius), offering an opportunity for regeneration and transformation following whatever you've cleared or closed out.
Happy Full Moon!

Last week I wrote about how the Solstice has set us up for a direction of change, leading us into the Cancer New Moon which occurred on the 25th June. That New Moon was one of the best moon’s to work with in terms of manifesting and intention-setting. I hope you took advantage of it!
I’m REEEEEAALLLLLLY hoping this Full Moon brings me success in my job interview on Friday. I would absolutely love to end this period of unemployment and start building my career back up after 8 months out of work entirely and about 4-5 years now underemployed. BTW, Cancer covers my MC and most of my 10th House and I just had my Mars return a few days ago, so I’m very much hoping the astrology helps me out!!
This was helpful! Thank you for your insight
